Types Of Orthodontic Treatments
Dental technology is always getting better. You’ll get the latest orthodontic treatments at Petrunic Orthodontics.
By pairing state-of-the-art technology with our thorough understanding of the movement and growth of the teeth and jaws, we’re able to successfully treat many dental issues, like:
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Protruding teeth
- Impacted teeth
Most patients we treat choose traditional metal braces to straighten their teeth. While metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic treatment, you have several other options.
After your free initial consultation, Dr. Petrunic will to you about which treatment would be right for you based on your unique needs and smile goals.
Fixed Vs. Removable Appliances
It’s important to understand the difference between fixed and removable appliances. Fixed appliances, like braces, are attached to your teeth and aren’t taken off until you complete your treatment.
Removable appliances, like the Clarity aligner system, are worn about 20-22 hours a day but can be taken off easily.
Aside from the obvious differences, Clarity aligners are best at treating mild to moderate orthodontic problems. Fixed appliances are generally needed for more serious and comprehensive treatment.
You've Got Options
Traditional metal braces are the most widely used type of fixed orthodontic appliance.
Traditional metal braces are a reliable, effective, and economical option that have stood the test of time for over a century.
Sometimes known as clear braces, ceramic braces provide a much less noticeable method of treatment.
Ceramic braces use the same parts as traditional braces, but the brackets on the front side of the teeth are made of see-through ceramic material instead of metal.
Unlike traditional braces, this kind of orthodontic treatment doesn’t rely on a system of metal or ceramic brackets and wires.
The Clarity system is made up of a series of custom clear trays called aligners that are removable and nearly invisible.
TMJ & TMD
You probably think of an orthodontist as someone who fixes crooked teeth with braces.
Dr. Petrunic can also treat a common dental issue: temporal mandibular joint disorder, or TMJ.
